Munro battle into ISSA/KFC Conference semis
MUNRO College advanced to the ISSA/KFC Central Conference Under-19 and Under-16 semi-finals, after scoring wins against Vere Technical and Knox College, respectively, at Manchester High School on Friday.
Munro dismissed Vere, 47-22, to book their place in the last four of the senior competition and turned back Knox, 44-39, to take their place in the junior semis.
Andrew Johnson and Jawayne Jarrett were the topscorers for the seniors with 12 and 11 points, respectively, among for the juniors, Delroy Farquharson led the scoring with 14 points.
Knox’s Sean Pollack was the game’s topscorer with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
Munro dominated the senior game from the opening whistle, leading, 10-4, after the first quarter and 28-10 at half-time. Their dominance continued into the third quarter as they took the period, 14-4, to lead, 38-14, at the going into the fourth quarter.
Although they only won the final quarter by a point (9-8), they were comfortable winners as they took the match 25 points clear of their opponents.
The junior match was a closer affair, with Munro winning the first half, 13-5, 12-11, to hold a 25-16 lead. But Knox came back after the interval to win the third quarter, 11-5, and the fourth, 11-8, to send the game into over-time after both teams were tied 38-38 at the end of the game.
However, in a one-sided over-time period, Munro ran out 7-2 winners.
On Thursday, Edwin Allen advanced to the last four of the Under-19 competition, but were ousted from the Under-16 contest.
In the senior game, Tafari Turgott scored a game-high 15 points as Edwin Allen defeated Christiana High, 42-37. Richard Chin was Christiana’s topscorer with 14 points.
In the junior match, Phillip Donaldson scored a game-high 23 points with six steals, and Romare Blackburn bagged 20 points, as Glenmuir blew away Edwin Allen, 82-15, to take a final-four berth in the junior competition.
Tomorrow,St Elizabeth Technical play Vere in the junior league at 2:00 pm before their seniors take on Belair at 3:30 at Belair.
