ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) — West Indies Women’s head coach Sherwin Campbell on Saturday praised the duo of Stafanie Taylor and Shaquana Quintyne, after his side beat South Africa by eight wickets to haul themselves back into the five-match series.

Off-spinner Taylor and leg-spinner Quintyne snared four wickets apiece to bundle South Africa out for 120 off 47.1 overs, and Taylor returned to stroke 71 at the top of the order to steer West Indies to victory in the third One-Day International.

“Quintyne was brilliant for us yet again and continues to show improvement in her overall game. In all three matches so far she has been very competent and consistent and it is clear she is learning very fast at this level,” Campbell said of the 17-year-old Barbadian.

“She is adapted very well to the conditions in Sri Lanka (at the World Twenty20 Championship) and again in his series and it is clear she is someone we can build our future around.”

Quintyne found herself on a hat-trick in her first over when she sent back Cri-zelda Brits (5) and the dangerous Dane van Niekerk (0) in successive deliveries, but missed out on the feat.

When West Indies batted, Taylor took control of the innings, dominating a 75-run opening stand with Kycia Knight (24) to pave the way for an uncomplicated triumph off just 29.2 overs.

“Taylor just keeps getting better and better and is delivering for us in vital situations,” Campbell pointed out.

“She did not get a score in the first two matches, but she settled down here in Dominica and played a gem of an innings that took us to victory in a do or die situation.

“It was a very good opening partnership with Knight, which put us on the road to a vital victory.”

History was likely to be created in the fourth One-Day International here yesterday as Kyshona Knight was expected to join her sister Kycia, in the final XI.

Kyshona, a left-handed middle order batsman and right-arm medium pacer, was likely to replace June Ogle-Thomas, who picked up a minor injury in Saturday’s contest.

Campbell confirmed the injury and said management would meet to decide on a replacement, but Kyshona is expected to be the option.
