Xyclone scores with Back Pocket Rag
Deejay Xyclone ended 2012 on a high with Back Pocket Rag giving him that elusive first hit.
Xyclone is hoping to duplicate that with the release of Top Shottas Anthem which features Deva Bratt.
Now a resident of Philadelphia, Xyclone is currently in Jamaica to film the video for Top Shottas Anthem.
A protégé of veteran deejay Spragga Benz, the 25-year-old Xyclone secured a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance from Medgar Evers College before launching his music career.
His accomplishments include the Everything is Red mix tape and songs like Back It Up produced by Notice Production; I Care Zero produced by Delly Ranx; and It’s On with soca artiste Kevin Lyttle, Red Rat and Delly Ranx.
Born Roje R Robinson, Xyclone’s father Peter Black was a selector for the Philadelphia Reggae Vibrations sound system. Five years ago, Xyclone linked with Spragga Benz and increased his profile on the Jamaican music scene.
Ras Kronik storms NY reggae chart
Las Vegas-based singjay Ras Kronik has a hit with the remix of his song The Real Thing. It is number 23 on the New York Reggae Chart.
“I feel great about the song being on the chart. I hope it will keep on climbing and let’s see what happens from there,” he said in a recent interview.
Ras Kronik said the idea for a remix came from John Francis of Dance Beat Records.
“He asked if I would be interested in a remix of the song for a more commercial release. I liked what I heard, and we decided to work with it,” he said.
Ras Kronik is originally from St Ann, bu migrated to the United States three years ago.
The artiste is hoping to capitalise on the success of The Real Thing remix by releasing several follow-up singles.
Among them are Ghetto Life, The Way to Life and Feelings. For his forthcoming album, Ras Kronik has enlisted former UB40 musician Patrick Anthony as a producer.
Prayer does it for Saphya
Karen Brown, better known as Saphya, recently released Prayer a Day on her Life Sweet label.
Saphya was born in Clarendon but migrated to the United States as a child. She attended the Florida Atlantic University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Service Administration and minored in Business Administration.
She also holds an Associate of Science degree in nursing from Broward College and is a registered nurse.
Saphya has placed her nursing career on hold to pursue a career in music. She is founder and co-owner of Life Sweet Records LLC in Florida, and is working on her first studio album titled Saphya True Story.
