FORMER winners Boys’ Town have virtually secured a semi-final berth in the Jamaica Yellow Pages/KSAFA Jackie Bell KO competition after romping to a 5-1 win over Police National in their first-leg quarter-final at Shortwood yesterday.

Daemeon Benjamin (22nd and 68th minutes) led the Premier League outfit with a brace, with the other goals coming from Rafiek Thomas (36th), Kemar Watson (48th), and Marvin Stewart (70th).

Alvin Morgan netted Police’s lone goal three minutes from time.

Boys’ Town manager Derrick Upfield said although they got five goals, the team could have done better with a clean sheet.

“But we will take this lead into the second-leg and see what happens,” he said.

Police’s coach Calvin Lewis said they were beaten by a better team, but believed they created good scoring chances, which augurs well for them entering the opening round of the KSAFA Super League on Saturday.

After a scrappy start, Boys’ Town took the lead when goalkeeper Robert Levy dropped a cross and gifted Benjamin the opener. Thomas added the second when he headed home from a cross.

Then three minutes after the break, Thomas set up Watson to head home the third, before Benjamin netted his second of the afternoon 20 minutes later to put Boys’ Town 4-0 up.

Two minutes later, Stewart clinically headed home to put the Andrew Price-coached team 5-0 up.

But, Morgan — Police’s most impressive player, along with defender Michael Cohen — pulled one back for the hosts after weaving his way through the Boys’ Town defence and firing home off the post.

At Bull Pen, the home team had to come from behind to hold Barbican to a 1-1 draw in their quarter-final. Kashi Schroeter fired the visitors ahead in the 42nd; however, Joel Selvin secured a draw for the hosts with a strike 12 minutes from time.

In a late game yesterday, Nicholas Scott scored the only goal nine minutes from time as hosts Tivoli Gardens turned back a spirited Olympic Gardens, 1-0, at the Edward Seaga Sport Complex.

Today, Santos entertain Arnett Gardens at the Bell/Chung Oval at 3:00 pm, while UWI play Rockfort at the UWI Bowl, starting at 6:00 pm.
