MONTEGO BAY, St James — Promoted Norwood Strikers stunned former Premier League champions Reno FC, 1-0, in their JFF Captain’s Bakery Western Confed Super League game at the UDC field yesterday.

Orlando Beckford’s strike late in the first half was Norwood’s first of the Super League season, snapping a dry run which lasted over 220 minutes.

Beckford caught the Reno defence napping on a counter-attack and fired past the left hand of the goalkeeper.

The Westmoreland team had dominated the game up to then and Melvin Blair missed a ‘sitter’ minutes earlier.

The win moved Norwood off the bottom of Zone 2 as they moved to four points ahead of Granville United, while Reno stayed on top with nine points after Tomorrow’s People played to a 0-0 draw with Holland United at Jarrett Park and are on seven points for second.

There was also a maiden win for Petersfield FC who blanked Harmony FC of Trelawny, 2-0, courtesy of Romario White in the 21st and Gavin Henry in the 65th.

The win snapped the Westmoreland club’s two-match losing streak and they moved off the bottom of the tables in Zone 1 on three points, ahead of Logwood United.

In today’s game today, Catherine Hall could assume the lead in Zone 1 against Wadadah at Jarrett Park at 3:00 pm.

Catherine Hall are undefeated and are on seven points, two behind leaders Village United, while Wadadah have four points from a win, a draw and a loss. They have scored just one goal so far, in their opening game win over Village.

Since then Village, have won their next three games, including Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Logwood at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

Also on Sunday, Bamboo blanked Granville, 2-0, to extend the former champions’ miseries as they are stuck on one point from four games and are yet to score a goal.
