Double keeps Bridgmohan in hunt at Fair Grounds
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CMC) — Jamaican Shaun Bridgmohan extended his run of form with a double at Fair Grounds on Saturday, one day after reeling off a triple at the southern United States venue.
The 33-year-old rode winners in race four with Wheemaway and in race eight with Harlie’s Dreams, to move to 25 wins in the winter standings. He is level in fourth place with Richard E Eramia, with Rosie Napravnik still on top with 35 wins.
Bridgmohan opened his account over a mile and 70 yards, carrying the favourite Wheemaway to victory over the fouryear-olds and upward, by 1-1/4 lengths.
He tucked the five-year-old chestnut gelding in behind the leading trip before grabbing the lead at the eighth pole under a steady whip, and eking clear in the late stages.
In race eight over six furlongs, Bridgmohan stalked with heavy favourite Harlie’s Dreams from third as Do Dat Blues eased clear by a length clear at the half-mile completed in 46:30 seconds.
Bridgmohan roused the six-year-old mare in the stretch and overhauled the leaders to reach the wire 2-1/2 lengths clear.
The current season at Fair Grounds started November 22 last year and runs until March 31.
