Reno, Village in quest for top-flight promotion
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former Premier League champions Reno FC and Village United will begin their quest for promotion back to the island’s top club football competition this afternoon when the Jamaica Football Federation’s (JFF) Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League kick off with a double-header at Jarrett Park, starting at 3:00.
Both teams were relegated from the Premier League last season and will join two former Confederation champions, Granville FC and Wadadah FC, in today’s kick-off.
Granville will host Reno in the opening game at 3:00 pm, followed by Wadadah vs Village in the 5:00 pm game.
Twelve teams, including the two relegated teams and four parish champions from last season who were promoted, are taking part in the competition that will see the teams separated into two zones and playing each other home and away for the first two rounds, then against teams from the other zone once in the third round. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.
The winners will receive the top prize of $150,000, the Captain’s Bakery Trophy and will take part in the Premier League promotion series. There will also be a mid-season final after the second round that will offer the winners $20,000.
Meanwhile, the competition will continue Thursday with four more games: Petersfield hosting Logwood; Catherine Hall and Harmony meeting at UDC field; Bamboo and Tomorrow’s People at Bamboo, and Holland facing first-timers Norwood Strikers at Elliston Wakeland Centre. All games will start at 3:00 pm. Reno, Village in quest for top-flight promotion
