Five-goal Tivoli tame Lion
FORMER champions Tivoli Gardens thrashed Clarendon’s Humble Lion, 5-1, in a RSPL game at Edward Seaga Sports Complex, on Sunday.
The goals kept coming — three in the second half — as the hapless Lion lay failing in defence.
Dane Kelly wasted little time getting Tivoli off the mark in the first minute with a direct attack from several yards away. The second came courtesy of Nicholas Scott in the 38th minute following a typical lapse in the Humble Lion defence.
Scott took a daring shot, almost falling head first as he stumbled and shuffled his way past goalkeeper Garth Heron to nudge the ball into the net.
Humble Lion pulled off a consolation when Denzil Watson slid a left-footer past custodian Edsel Scott in the 55th.
Kelly pushed his team further ahead in the 69th from 23 yards, before Christopher Jackson added a goal in the 81st and Kemar Flemmings delivered the coup de grace in stoppage time.
Tivoli’s coach Glendon ‘Admiral’ Bailey was happy with the flood of goals. “We did ourselves justice. We’re on a mission for this round; we’re trying to turn it around…
“I think the guys are focussed. There is still some work to be done, but getting five goals in any game is a good sign,” Bailey added.
Lynval Wilson of Humble Lion blamed a lack of focus for their demise.
“The back of the team let us down… five goals… some simple errors. The focus of the team, especially the back… is like a floodgate went open. They lost their focus… got jittery and that cost us the game,” Wilson lamented.
