MONTEGO BAY, St James — The four winners from the first set of games in the quarter-finals of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboys’ football competition could move a step closer to the semi-finals with wins this afternoon as the competition continues with four games.

All games start at 3:00 pm.

Former champions Glenmuir High, St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) and Frome Technical as well as Mannings School all scored wins earlier this week and will put pressure on the other teams to win today and stay in the race for one of two places from either Group to advance to the semi-finals.

Back-to-back wins would, however, secure the places for the next round and would leave the teams to battle out for the top spot in Wednesday’s final round of matches.

Garvey Maceo High and Manchester High, who both lost by 2-1 margins to Westmoreland schools Mannings and Frome Technical, are the likely teams to pose a threat for a semi-final place but are up against tough opponents today.

Garvey Maceo play Ben Francis KO champions and red-hot STETHS at Jamalco, while Manchester High take on Glenmuir at Kirkvine.

In the other games, Mannings School will take on Cedric Titus at Drax Hall, while Bog Walk and Frome Technical meet at Dinthill Technical.

Both Garvey Maceo and Manchester came into the round with strong credentials, but their losses earlier would have set them back and anything but a win today would all but end their campaigns this season.

Garvey Maceo will come up against a STETHS team that has allowed one goal in their last six daCosta Cup games going back to the end of the first round and must throw everything in attack from the first whistle if they hope to get anything from the game.

Manchester are in the same position as Garvey Maceo, but will face a Glenmuir team that is coming off a 6-0 thrashing of Bog Walk on Wednesday.

Manchester High have sailed through the Inter-zone round scoring eight goals while not conceding any, but ran i In the other two games today, Frome Technical look set for their first semi-final since 2006 when they take on a Bog Walk team that could still be reeling from their big loss on Wednesday.

At Drax Hall, the Mannings vs Cedric Titus game could be closer than most expect, despite the results from the first set of games.

Mannings dominated Garvey Maceo at Frome, while Cedric Titus gave up three first half goals against STETHS at STETHS but came back to hold their own in the second half and will be more comfortable at Drax Hall.
