1 On March 25 the first ever yam festival at the Westwood High school in Trelawny. With a turn out of over 18,000 persons.
2 The Maintenance Act, 2005 has repealed the Affiliation Act, which since 1926 had provided for the determination of maintenance and fatherhood of children where the parents are not married to each other.
3.Jamaica’s National Junior Men’s Water Polo Team left the island for Argentina where they will compete in the 13th FINA Men’s Junior Water Polo World Championships.
4. Peter Phillips was pressured to maintain his hold on his own credibility as a serious contender for the top post after Prime Minister Patterson steps down from office in the new year.
5. Godfrey Stewart High got the best of Glenmuir High with 3-0 defeat in the final of the ISSA/Pepsi/Jamaica National daCosta Cup final at Jarrett Park to win the cup for the first time.
6 Hurricane Dennis ripped through Jamaica with one fatality and $31.7 million in damage. As a Category 3 hurricane, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to most areas.
7 Jamaica was hit by yet another Hurricane. Hurricane Emily, a Category 4 hurricane that left the Jamaican people devastated with the havoc that was created.
8 Terri-Karelle Griffith is crowned Miss Jamaica World.
9 The Starkey Hearing Foundation, which is based in the United States, conducts more than 150 missions in countries across the globe. The Starkey Hearing Foundation has touched more than 78,000 lives worldwide and in December 2005 it was Jamaica’s turn to benefit from their generosity.
10 Sting has been known for the hardcore one-on-one lyrical battles, but this year peace was the order of the day. Emphasising peace, love and unity, selector Glamour Wayne and MC Nuffy reading from a violence prevention manual for children completing with a praise worship section set by Prodigal Son.
