Goal flood in prep school football league
HEAVY goal-scoring has been the order of the day by some of the top teams in the 2012 Jamaica Independence Schools’ Association (JISA) Alberga Cup Prep Schoolboys football competition after three rounds of action at several venues.
The schools that have been scoring more than three goals per game are defending champions Hydel, Vaz, Lannaman’s and Mona, all of whom have won three consecutive matches from as many starts to lead their respective zones.
Champions Hydel, coached by Roy Morrison, lead Zone Four with nine points after a 4-0 win over Portmore Missionary, 3-0 over St Jago 3-0 and a 7-0 whipping of Belair.
Last year’s beaten finalists, Lannaman’s, are the early leaders in Zone Two with nine points with their three wins registered against Our Lady of the Angels (4-0), Richmond Park (7-0) and Ardenne (1-0) in their last game on Wednesday.
Vaz with three wins from three outings currently lead Zone One, also with maximum nine points. They have crushed Bright Beginnings 8-0, tagged Emmanuel Christian 2-0 and in the last game this week whipped Hopefield 8-0.
Mona sit atop Zone Three with nine points as well after crushing One Way Prep 6-0, blanking Stella Maris 2-0 and drubbing Excel 9-0 in mid-week action.
Other schools that have scored big wins are Stella Maris who crushed Excel 7-0; Wolmer’s with the biggest win for the season with a 10-0 drubbing of whipping boys Excel; Hillel blew away Wolmer’s 6-0 and Glowell decimated El Shadhai 7-0.
Other results of matches played Wednesday saw Quest defeating Richmond Park 5-0; Meadowbrook outscoring Bright Beginnings 4-1; Trafalgar Christian got past St Hugh’s 4-2; Our Lady of the Angels blanked Alvernia 4-0; AISK clipped One Way 2-1; St. Andrew tagged Stella Maris 2-0; St. Jago and St. Catherine played to a 1-1 draw.
The competition continues this afternoon in all four zones.
