Democrats in Omaha say some ballots pre-filled
OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) — Nebraska Democrats say at least two voters at separate polling places in Omaha received ballots that had already been filled out for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and incumbent Republican Representative Lee Terry.
The state Democratic Party and campaign of Democratic second District House candidate John Ewing have called a news conference for Tuesday afternoon to give more details about the reported incidents.
Ewing campaign spokeswoman Rebekah Caruthers said one voter walking into Ewing’s campaign office Tuesday morning was upset that parts of her ballot had already been filled out.
Caruthers said the reported incidents happened at a north Omaha polling place and a midtown Omaha polling place.
Secretary of State spokeswoman Laura Strimple said she knows only of one incident, which occurred in north-central Omaha.
She said one of the two pages stuck in the ballot holder as it was emptied into the ballot box. The precinct worker then placed a fresh ballot into the holder to be handed to the next voter. That voter discovered the marked page.
Messages to the offices of the Omaha Election Commission and were not immediately returned.
