SITUATED just outside of Falmouth in Trelawny, the Outameni Experience is arguably Jamaica’s most sought-after attractions when one thinks of a vivid and creative depiction of our country’s history and culture.

Notably, the concept is believed to be the first of its kind in the country, bringing the lessons normally found in History books to life.

The word ‘outameni’ is of Taino origin, meaning ‘Come Together’ and coincidentally, it sounds distinctly similar to the patois pronunciation of the first portion of the Jamaica motto ‘Out of Many, One People’.

The ‘Experience’ combines music, drama, art, film and dance to show the cultures of our ancestors, and in doing so, shows how different sets of inhabitants all played a part in shaping the elements of the lifestyle of that exists in Jamaica today.

Without a doubt, locals and tourists are drawn to the attraction as they are granted a rare opportunity to see how Jamaica has developed over the years. Preserving the heritage of Jamaica, the Outameni Experience promotes the country’s entertaining history with an interactive walk that persons cannot resist seeing at least one time in their life time.

The Outameni Experience takes you on a 90-minute tour on the five-acre property through various villages that have been uniquely and strategically designed to depict the cultures of Taino, Spanish, English, Indian, Chinese and Jamaica Today.

From the reflections of those who have already toured the establishment, they speak to an education-packed journey starting from the memorable welcome by the Jonkunnu dancers to the dramatisations of ‘Passa Passa’ towards the end of the ‘experience’.

Complimenting the attraction even more is the option to sample food that the various cultures have come to be recognised for, making the ‘experience’ more than a mere visual encounter to one that engages all the senses.

Opening its doors in September of 2007, the Outameni Experience is the noted brainchild of respected Jamaican film-maker Lennie Little-White and owned by Orange Valley Holdings Limited.
