Jermaine Hue named in Boyz starting eleven
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala — Midfielder Jermaine Hue will be one of three changes from Jamaica’s last starting lineup when they go up against Guatemala in a crucial World Cup qualifier tonight.
Hue, who last represented Jamaica in February against Cuba and last represented the country in a World Cup qualifier in 2008 against El Salvador during the 2010 World Cup campaign under the guidance of Rene Simoes, will join the returning Demar Phillips and central defender Shavar Thomas as the changes.
The 34-year-old Hue will slot in behind the starting forwards Ryan Johnson and captain Luton Shelton and will have the responsibility of creating goal scoring chances for them.
“I have always said that whenever the call comes I will be ready,” a pleased Hue said about his recall and being immediately handed a starting role.
“I have been I this situation before and playing for my country is always in the back of my mind, I am always thinking that I can be called,” added Hue who said he never allowed himself to lose motivation or feel disappointed.
“When I played against Cuba in February it was a similar situation. All I can do is perform for my club. I focus on my performance and the rest will take care of itself,” Hue said.
He noted that this game is a critical one for the Reggae Boyz and that he wants to play his part in helping the team advance.
“My job is to create opportunities for others to score and to score as well. It is my intention to give a good performance and to help the team come out with a positive result tonight. A positive result for us will be a win or a draw, nothing else will be good enough for us,” said Hue, reinforcing the importance of getting a point out of the game to Jamaica’s World Cup campaign.
