Domino’s Introduces ‘Pan Pizza’
Rejoice Domino’s fans, the popular pizza maker has introduced a handmade pan pizza to its menu. The new pizza, which was launched yesterday at nine of the fast food chain’s 10 locations (save for the outlet at Sangster International Airport), is a departure from Domino’s expected fare. With changes a-coming, Wisynco Foods, the local franchise holder for Domino’s (Wendy’s and Häagen Dazs too), invited 10 Jamaican Facebook fans who ‘like’ the pizza to a special tasting last Monday at their Central Plaza, Half-Way-Tree location to gauge reactions to the new product. Thursday Food snagged an exclusive media invite to the tasting, going into the kitchen and at the table to see and hear what the verdict was on Domino’s new pan pizza.
New to Domino’s, the handmade pan pizza is made with hand-stretched dough that has a buttery, flaky taste. Unlike the chain’s traditional pizzas, store manager Carlene Griffiths, notes that “this pizza is deep dish and made in a pan; our other pizzas are made on a screen; our other pizzas include cornmeal, the new one does not. There is also no crust. This pizza has a crispy taste that’s really cheesy and quite good”.
While pan pizzas are not new to other players in the pizza market, Sean Scott, chief executive officer of Wisynco Foods, told Thursday Food: “With this launch our message is clear, Jamaicans can now enjoy a great pan pizza at an attractive price, delivered hot to their homes with a speed of service unmatched by the competition.”
