Accused porn-site extortionist again offered bail
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Accused porn-site mastermind Ronald Oates was again offered $500,000 bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court today on new charges.
The new charges were laid last week Tuesday after Oates was offered $500,000 and was being processed to be released from lock up.
The new charges for which Oates was brought before the court today are the same as the first: unauthorised access and unlawfully making data available for the commission of an offence, unauthorised obstruction, obscene publication, extortion and conspiracy to extort.
He was slapped with the additional charges after a new complainant came forward.
Oates’ lawyer, Zara Lewis, made a bail application before Magistrate’s Georgianna Fraser.
Fraser reminded the accused that he should stay away from internet-capable devices.
He is to return to Court on October 16.
Twenty-seven-year-old Oates allegedly posted nude photographs of women on the Internet and is accused of extorting more than $100,000 from victims to remove the offending pictures.
