Stars dazzle in stage-worthy gowns
Their beautiful elaborate gowns were worthy of the stage itself. But that didn’t stop their clumsy fellow guests from walking all over them.
Both Anne Hathaway and Victoria’s Secret Angel Kurkova were caught out by wrong-footed men who were overwhelmed by the occasion as they arrived for the New York City Ballet’s grand gala last Thursday.
But it didn’t do anything to ruin the star-studded occasion. Before she became a famous actress, Sarah Jessica Parker was a ballet dancer at the American Ballet Theater in the seventies. As a current board member of the New York City Ballet, the actress was in her element at the event at the Lincoln Center.
The 47-year-old star looked stunning in a grey floor-length dress of sheer fabric, which was gathered at the waist with a gold belt. Also turning heads was fellow actress and style icon Anne Hathaway, whose gorgeous floral gown was also sheer, and so long that it formed a train around her feet. Her long train was not without its pitfalls, however.
At least one male guest walked right over the dress as Anne was arriving at the event. The 29-year-old beauty was bereft of jewellery, save a pair of simple diamond studs in her ears, and she carried a gorgeous gold-studded clutch.

‘I’m happily married’
Actor Javier Bardem suited up for GQ magazine and gave a revealing look into his married life with Penelope Cruz. The 43-year-old Skyfall star smoulders in a series of classy poses. But sorry, ladies: his heart belongs to wife of two years Penelope, one of Hollywood’s most beautiful imports. Javier says he’s found his soulmate in Cruz, who, like him, was born in Spain. “I’m happily married,” Javier told the men’s fashion magazine. “I breathe and stay in peace. I truly thank whoever’s up there for giving me the opportunity to be loved.” Javier was uncharacteristically frank in the GQ interview.
The magazine hits newstands September 25 with three alternate covers that also feature actor Denzel Washington and NBA All-Star Chris Paul. Up until now, the Spanish lovebirds have always kept their relationship well below the radar. The Oscar-winning couple started dating in 2007 and wed two years later in a small, private ceremony at a friend’s house in the Bahamas. Their love was made complete when Penelope, 38, gave birth to their first child, Leonardo, in January 2010.
