KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment finished third today making history as the first Jamaican to medal in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Olympics.

Parchment, clocking 13.12, also improved on the National Record he set running 13.14 in the semis.

“I did not think I executed as well as I wanted, but I got a medal so I’m happy, I’m not a very fast starter, but it was good enough for me,” he said. 

Parchment said all that was going through his mind during the race was, “try to get them”.

American Aries Merritt won the race in 12.92 with his countryman Jason Richardson (13.04) in second.

 “Richardson and Merritt are excellent competitors and have been running sub-13 all year, so I congratulate them,”  Parchment said. 

Noted Cuban, Dayron Robles, pulled up during the race finishing out of the frame.
