KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former national record holder Maurice Wignall hailed Hansle Parchment’s record run in gaining the country’s first ever medal in the men’s sprint hurdles shortly after Parchment lowered his national record inside London’s Olympic stadium.

Wignall told the Jamaica Observer about an hour before Parchment had lined up in lane seven for the finals that he believed Parchment could cop a medal position if he improved his start.

While Parchment left the blocks slowly he ran on strongly to place third and in doing so made Wignall’s words prophetic and a nation beam with pride at his historic feat.

“I told you so. I saw this coming a long time ago. When he fixes his start that run on will be a run away,’ an ecstatic Wignall said.

Wignall, who has in the past trained with and passed on some tips to Parchment, said he had always believed in him because of his determination and dedication to the discipline.

“He is dedicated and has focus and will take things to a whole new level in time,” Wignall said.
