LONDON, England — Repeat Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce led all three Jamaican women into today’s semi-finals of the women’s 200m at the XXX Olympiad after yesterday’s first-round run in cold temperatures and under gloomy skies at Olympic Stadium in Stratford, London.

Just days after the 100m final, the women were back in action and the cold weather forced the Americans, including Allyson Felix and Carmelita Jeter, to pull out the full bodysuits.

Fraser-Pryce, who uncharacteristically opted not to talk to the media after her race, looked smooth off the curve to win her race, while two-time defending champion Veronica Campbell Brown and Sherone Simpson were both third in their heats, getting automatic berths in the semi-finals.

Fraser-Pryce cruised to a 22.71-second time, tied for ninth overall with Felix, Campbell Brown ran 22.75 seconds and Simpson ran 22.97 seconds.

Today, Fraser-Pryce will run in the third semi-final set for 8:41 pm UK time (2:41 Jamaica time) and will have American Sanya Richards-Ross, the 400m champion here.

Campbell Brown has been drawn in the first semi-final and will have Jeter and France’s Myriam Soumaré to deal with while Simpson will take on Felix in the second semi.

The top two from each heat and the next best three will make it to tomorrow’s final.
