LONDON, England – Jamaica’s national champion Dane Hyatt had no excuses to make and said if he did not make it past the first round of the men’s 400m on this morning’s session of the 28th Olympic Games here in London, “it would all be on me.”

The former William Knibb Memorial athlete did admit he would be “very disappointed” if he did not get the chance to advance, but refused to blame the cool weather, his fitness or anything else.

Hyatt’s 45.14 seconds for fourth in his first round heat was good enough to see him through as the eighth fastest however while his teammates Rushane McDonald and Jermaine Gonzales, both nursing injuries failed to get out of the first round.

McDonald was fourth in the first heat in 46.67 seconds and limped through the media mix zone, telling journalists that a long term back injury appeared to be getting worst.

Jermaine Gonzales said he had been nursing a hamstring injury for the past few months and I caused him a lot of preparation time hence his 46.21 seconds for sixth in his heat and elimination.

Hyatt will however fly the Jamaican flag in tomorrow’s semi-finals and told journalists, “I don’t think I executed as how I would have liked to but it happened already so its behind me.”

He appeared to stumble at about 50 meters from the finish line but said it was due to his lack of attention, “Actually I think I just lost focus but that’s what happen when you tie up and I have myself to blame for that.”

Hyatt will run in the third of three heats, out of lane two.
