Williams-Mills confident of 400m podium finish
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Novlene Williams-Mills this morning exuded confidence that she will get through the rounds and contend for a medal in the finals Sunday.
After winning her 400m heats this morning in 50.88, the Jamaican said: “I just wanted to get a good run and be in control.”
“It’s one round at a time and everyone wants to get on the podium,” she added.
If all the top contenders make the final, Willams-Mills will be up against reigning World champion, Amantle Montsho of Botswana, defending Olympic champion, Britain’s Christine Ohuruogu (50.80) and Sanya Richards Ross of the USA (51.78).
Montsho was the fastest qualifier, winning Heat 2 in 50.40.
