Sinclair the most serious of the injury concerns
LONDON, England — There are some minor injury worries in the Jamaican camp on the eve of the start of the track and field competition here at the XXX Olympiad at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, London.
The most serious concerns surround the health of 800m runner Kenia Sinclair, who has been nursing a back injury all season.
Yesterday team manager Ludlow Watts confirmed that Sinclair, whose season best is two minutes, 01.55 seconds in winning the event at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Trials at the National Stadium in June, was suffering from the ailment.
Sinclair, who has a personal best one minute, 57.88 seconds set back in 2006, has been a consistent 1:58.00 runner the last few seasons but has struggled this year and pulled out of the Jamaican Medley Relay team that competed at the Penn Relays in April.
Meanwhile, Watts has rubbished reports of a male athlete receiving stitches after a recent incident at a bar.
The Jamaica Observer heard that the athlete had gone out with friends sometime in the last week when an incident started and he was hit in the head with a beer bottle causing a wound that took stitches to close.
While not denying there was an incident of some kind, Watts said the severity of the incident was way overblown. “We did not even mention anything about this as it really was not that serious,” he told Observer.
