Phelps wins 200m, gains 16th gold
LONDON, England — AMERICAN swimmer Michael Phelps finished first in the men’s 200m Individual medley in 1:54.27. This win takes his gold medal count to 16, and 20 medals overall.
This is Phelps’ third gold medal at this year’s Olympics Games.
US team member Ryan Lotche placed second in 1:54.90.
Third place went to Lazlo Czech from Hungary, who finished in 1:56.22.
Lotche still holds the world record for this event after swimming 1:54.00 in Shanghai, China July 2011.
The Olympic record belongs to Phelps who swam 1:54.23 at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
