LONDON, England – Jamaica’s Samantha Albert completed her Olympic Games competition earlier today, placing 51st out of the 53 riders who completed the three stages of the Individual Eventing at the historic and centuries old Greenwich Park equestrian centre here in London.Jamaica Observer.

The 41-year-old Canadian born Jamaican who lives in England where her father was born, finished with a total score of 142.20 penalty points and actually improved from her 59th place overnight after yesterday’s cross country stage and was the first rider on the course this morning in front of a packed venue with almost their daily 50,000 attendance despite gloomy weather and drizzle at times.

Albert picked up 21 penalty points from eight penalties and 1 time fault in the preliminaries of the show jumping and failed to advance to this afternoon’s show jumping final where the top 25 from this morning’s ride will compete.

All night work by the Jamaican team and a farrier from another team got her horse Carraig Dubh, a 12 year-old grey thoroughbred ready for the day’s event and passed a pre competition inspection “with flying colours” according to team leader Anthony Pasmore.

Albert had started poorly on Saturday, picking up 67.20 penalty points in the dressage then got another 54.0 points in the cross country stage yesterday.

Pasmore described Albert’s performance as “excellent” pointing out that finishing this tough discipline was in itself a victory.

“Fifteen riders fell during cross country and were not able to continue,” all three Japanese riders including Yoshiaki Oiwa who led the overall competition after the dressage, “so for Sam to complete the entire course was outstanding,” he told the
