Phelps’ 15th gold creates Olympic history
KINGSTON, Jamaica — SWIMMER Michael Phelps became the most decorated Olympian ever when he helped the United States men’s 4 x 200 metres freestyle relay team win gold today.
Phelps, 27, swam the anchor leg in the relay winning his 15th Olympic gold medal and 19th in total medals of all colours.
Today’s medal is the first gold for Phelps at the London games.
He however holds the record for most Olympic gold medals received after winning six in the Athens Games in 2004 and eight at Beijing in 2008.
France finished second in today’s 4x200m race and China took the bronze medal in the event.
