Alia’s new £450 swimsuit takes her into the semis
LONDON, England —The Jamaica Olympic association (JOA) and the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) are sparing no cost to ensure that Alia Atkinson gets the best shot at making the finals in her three events here at the London Olympics Games.
Atkinson, who won her heats in the 100m-breaststroke, clocking a national record of 1 minute 07.39 seconds this morning, has been trying out her new state-of-the-art swimsuit that cost £450.
Martin Lyn, president of the ASAJ and the swim team manager her told the Observer today that it take the 24 year old Atkinson an hour to put on and take off the suit each day she wears it, 30 minutes each way.
“This just shows we are not sparing anything and we are taking this to a new level to ensure she does her best,” Lyn told the Observer.
Atkinson who hold seven Jamaican records, swam a personal best 1 minute 08.45 seconds at the Santa Clara International Grand Prix in Northern California in early June, just under the 1 minute 08.49 seconds qualifying mark for the A standard.
