South Korea sailing coach sent home from Olympics
WEYMOUTH, England (AP) — The South Korea Sailing Federation says coach Lee Jae-cheol has been sent home from the Olympics after being stopped by police for drunk driving after attending a banquet hosted by the mayor of Weymouth.
The federation says Lee was returning alone to the athletes village at 5:00 a.m Thursday after sleeping at the federation’s headquarters in an attempt to sober up.
The federation has apologised on Lee’s behalf. Kim Joon-nyun, secretary general of the sailing federation, says Lee had been fined 250 British pounds and was “on the way home”. Korea is represented by four sailors in three classes.
