Olympic role excites JFF boss
JAMAICA’S Captain Horace Burrell says he’s excited about his role in being part of the team overseeing the organisation and running of the football tournaments at the London Olympics.
Burrell, the president of the Jamaica Football Federation and a vice-president of the Jamaica Olympic Committee, will be involved in the football aspects of the Games as a member of the 19-man FIFA’s Committee for Olympic Football Tournaments.
“It’s a great honour first of all to be appointed to this committee, and to now have the opportunity to work with my colleagues in delivering a great football product, not only for FIFA, but the IOC and the London organisers,” said Burrell, who departed the island yesterday for London.
Football will have action in both men’s and women’s categories to be played in Newcastle and London during the July 27 to August 12 London Games.
Burrell, who also wears the hat as an official of the JOA, said outside of his critical function, he will plans to visit the Jamaican athletes. “I certainly will visit the athletes and officials and to let them know that I am behind them 100 per cent, plus they can feel assured that Jamaica’s football community will be among the cheers when they bow into action.
The Organising Committee for the Olympic Football Tournaments shall organise the Olympic Football Tournaments in compliance with the provisions of the regulations applicable to these tournaments and the Olympic Charter.
