Spain athlete out of Olympics after doping report
MADRID, Spain (AP) — Spain’s track federation has axed steeplechaser Angel Mullera from its London Olympic Games team while it considers disciplinary proceedings against him for alleged doping.
A federation statement yesterday gave no reason for the decision.
However, it said the move was “independent of the possible initiation of disciplinary proceedings, together with preventive suspension for alleged misconduct referred to in our Anti-Doping Rules.”
According to sports newspaper AS on Thursday, the federation was tipped off by an anonymous source earlier this year about alleged email exchanges between Mullera and a sports trainer that indicated he may have been doping or was planning to dope.
The federation said Sebastian Martos would replace Mullera.
