No love lost! Female shooter gets Olympic nod over hubby
LONDON, England (AFP) — Australian shooter Alethea Sedgman was faced with a domestic dilemma after being selected ahead of her boyfriend for a berth on the shooting team for the Olympics.
The 18-year-old Sedgman benefited from a decision to award the final spot on the team to a woman, meaning boyfriend Chris Gulvin missed out.
Sedgman, who is competing in the 10m air rifle and the 50m rifle three positions in her first Olympic Games, says the pair remain as close as ever.
“We’re still going out, we’re still strong,” she said yesterday. “He promised as long as I get him some clothing, he’ll forgive me.”
Love is definitely in the air within the Australian shooting squad for the Games.
Russell and Lauryn Mark are married, while 10m air pistol competitor Dina Aspandiyarova is married to shooting coach Anatoly Babushkin.
David and Hayley Chapman, who are also in the shooting squad, are father and daughter.
