It will take 9.7 to get a medal in the 100m — Tyson Gay
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former double World champion, Tyson Gay says sprinters will have to run at least 9.7 seconds to medal in this summer’s 100m Olympic final.
Gay told Reuters that it’s “mind blowing” to think as many as five people could run that fast in a race.
The Jamaican sprint trio of Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell are among those Gay said will run that time.
The American is confident he can get back to that form after suffering from injuries over the past year adding, “I don’t think I have a choice but to”.
Gay is slated to run the third leg of the American squad’s relay team at the Monaco Diamond League meet today.
