BG&LC aboard Emancipation Race Day
CAYMANAS Track Limited (CTL), in association with the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BG&LC), yesterday announced the staging of the 2012 Emancipation Race Day at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, August 1.
The BG&LC last sponsored the race day two years ago. However, for the relaunch, the betting regulators are more committed than ever to thoroughbred racing as BG&LC executive manager Derek Peart, who made the announcement of the company’s recommitment, handed over $1,695,000 towards the purses.
CTL racing secretary Denzil Miller Jnr outlined racing details at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston.
BG&LC will sponsor the Emancipation Day event for the 8th year and will feature the eighth running of the BG&LC Trophy (Gr III).
The race for Open Allowance horses going 1,100m for a purse of $800,000 inclusive of $300,000 from the sponsors, has attracted some of the fastest runners in local racing with possible starters being: Da Boom, Go Go Yvonne, Hupomone, Richieshappynotion, Red Flag, Harlan’s Dancers, Lady Macbeth, Reasonable Press, Rio Cobre, Sarah Barracuda, Sir Von, Commanding Chief, Jet Setter, Palace Gold, Sweet Trail, Traditional Prince, and Trend Setter.
The secondary feature on the card is the Charles Randle Cup. Run in honour of Hall-of-Famer and former general manager of the BG&LC, the race will be run over 1,820m for a purse of $480,600, inclusive of $200,000 from the sponsors, and will be contested by native-bred four-year-olds upward (NW2) lifetime.
A race for native-bred four-year-olds upward (NW3) lifetime for a purse of $516,600 inclusive of $200,000, going 1,100m will also be contested in honour of the late Albert Rose, a former member of the BG&LC.
The day will also be highlighted with the annual Emancipation Day Trophy over 1,300m among three-year-olds upward in the claiming spread, $600,000 – $500,000 for a purse of $570,000, inclusive of $200,000 from the sponsor.
