500,000 Olympic football tickets recalled
ORGANISERS of the London Olympics have scaled back ticket sales fearing that stadiums will go empty due to lukewarm demand.
Half a million tickets for football matches for both men and women were recalled yesterday.
Despite promising packed stadiums, the organisers have had to reduce capacity at several of its venues but London 2012 chairman, Sebastian Coe, said the shortfall was expected.
With so many venues and matches and not knowing who will be playing when after the initial rounds, it was always going to be a challenge to fill all seats, Coe said.
250,000 football and 50,000 tickets for other sports are still on sale.
