Mismyrtleboyrichie shines in Open Allowance
MISMYRTLEBOYRICHIE returned to racing after a lengthy absence and devastated Open Allowance company by six lengths with a blistering run at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Trained by Lorne Kirlew for owner Jigzy Blades, the brash American colt ran 1,600 metres in 1:37.2 to continue from where he left off last June and registered his 10th-consecutive win after losing his first race on local soil.
Running a bit green, Mismyrtleboyrichie was defeated by the fleet-footed American-bred filly Dance So Sweet over 600m straight.
Ridden by Omar Walker, the bay colt who was installed as an 8-5 chance is now one win away from equalling the record of most consecutive wins, which is held at present by the former top performer War Zone, who won almost everything in sight as a three-year-old conditioned at the time by 11-time champion and currently leading trainer Wayne DaCosta.
Following the massive performance in which Mismyrtleboyrichie beat last year’s St Leger winner Commanding Chief into second place, trainer Kirlew said:
“Naturally, I had expected him to win. I know that he has the ability and based on how well he prepared coming into the race I was confident, but the manner in which he did it was a complete surprise to me and the question of eclipsing the War Zone record it is now a mere formality,” Kirlew added.
After the starter sent them on their way, Mismyrtleboyrichie, using his good speed, worked his way from the one draw to settle at the front end of the pack tracked by Commanding Chief, ridden by Paul Francis, as the runners sort themselves out.
With half the race behind, Walker put Mismyrtleboyrichie in front and from then on it was a matter of playing catch-up for the rest of the field as the American mauler entered the final 600m well in control of the race.
So much so that after turning for home, all Walker needed to do was to keep his mount balanced as they were not for catching.
Commanding Chief, the even money favourite who saw his drive to make three-in-a-row disappear, had to be content with finishing second, with the American Emperor Hall, a 3-2 bet ridden by Shane Ellis, showing another 1 /12 back and Raise A Ruckus, ridden by Winston Griffiths, completing the frame at odds of 10-1 in the field of nine.
