Boyz vs Liberia appears a promoter’s ruse, says JFF
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) says its senior Reggae Boyz have not set a date with African outfit Liberia as it sought to dispel talks that the two nations will meet in Boston, USA, on July 28.
Portion of the local media had carried reports that the game was to precede an August 15, friendly innternational against El Salvador in Washington. The JFF had officially announced the latter game, which will be played on a FIFA sanctioned date, at a press conference, but there was no mention of a match-up with the war-torn African nation and the country of birth of former AC Milan star, George Weah.
“The Jamaica Football Federation has not sanctioned any game between Jamaica and Liberia and has no agreement to play any game against that country,” a press release from the local governing body said.
“It appears that a promoter has acted unprofessionally in advertising this game between the two countries and consequently the JFF has advised the US Soccer Federation and FIFA accordingly,” the press release continued.
JFF president, Captain Horace Burrell, was seen on television earlier this week distancing his organisation from the rumoured match-up.
