The NWA closes westbound carriageway of Montego River Bridge
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The National Works Agency (NWA) will tomorrow close a section of the westbound carriageway of the Montego River Bridge, which runs along the Howard Cooke Boulevard in the second city.
This section of the roadway will remain closed until Sunday.
NWA says the roadway is being closed to facilitate repairs to its expansion joints, which have become defective causing traffic snarls during morning and afternoon peak periods.
Overlaying of the bridge deck with asphaltic concrete is also included in the repairs.
The project is projected to cost approximately $7 million.
Resulting from the tomorrow’s closure, motorists travelling from the direction of the Howard Cooke Boulevard towards Alice Eldemire Drive will be re-routed to the eastbound carriageway of the Montego River Bridge. The eastbound section of the bridge will therefore facilitate two-way traffic.
Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons, while work is in progress.
