Y Not Pita? Really, Why Not?
There’s a new eatery in town at a trendy new address to boot. Health-loving foodies can now welcome Y Not Pita to our capital city’s ever-expanding culinary landscape. The restaurant — found in the recently opened Lady Musgrave Road shopping complex, The Courtyard 71 — offers a variety of pita wraps to calorie-watching customers.
According to spouses Bassilios and Nancy Hado, the concept for their latest eatery actually sprang from diners’ demands at their Chez Maria restaurant. “At Chez Maria, the pitas are actually our best-selling menu items. We wanted to create the same concept with the same ingredients and more, and that’s how the idea for this new eatery came about,” Nancy Hado told Thursday Food at the soft opening of Y Not Pita last Sunday.
“What we are offering here is healthy food in a pita bread, so basically there is no frying, everything is done on a griddle,” she added. Menu options at Y Not Pita include jerk chicken, beef pepper steak, tuna, Mexicana (chicken tenderloin seasoned with fajita spices) and Americana (seasoned beef tenderloin) pitas. Also available are Lebanese desserts made by Bassilios’ mum that include an olive bread and low-calorie rice pudding.
How did they come up with the name? Well, the couple told us, “every time, we thought of a name with pita, when we checked, somewhere else already had that name, so we kept on asking ‘why not pita?’ and it stuck”.
Should things proceed well with Y Not Pita, Bassilios foresees a franchise in the future. “It’s my target, actually. That’s why I make it so small and easy to manage,” he pointed out. With its five-person staff and a pita-focused menu, the novelty of Y Not Pita locations may be stretching far and wide beyond Lady Musgrave in the near future.
Y Not Pita is now open and located at Shop #4 at 71 Musgrave Road. Telephone 927-PITA (7482). Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday — 11:30 am to 10:00 pm; Friday and Saturday — 11:30 am to 2:00 am
