JAAA gets US$7000 worth of Kinesiology tapes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican athletes at the London Olympics will benefit from new Kinesiology tapes donated to the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association and the Jamaica Olympic Association by a team of local chiropractors.
Athletes use the tapes to relieve pain, improve circulation, and to help speed recovery.
According to Dr Ty Ashcroft, a member of the team, the KT Tape Pro is applied along muscles, ligaments, and tendons (soft-tissue) to provide a strong, lightweight external support that helps to prevent injury.
Use of the brightly coloured tapes gained popularity since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The new design is composed of 100 per cent synthetic microfibres, which the chiropractors say provide stronger elastic recoil and better support when compared to cotton versions
