Spot Valley High girls win at Aviva United Kingdom Olympic Trials in Birmingham
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Spot Valley High girls under 17 team won one of their two events in which they participated at last weekend’s Aviva United Kingdom Olympic Trials in Birmingham, England.
Spot Valley High who were guests of the Birmingham City Council won the girls 4x100m and was second in the 4x200m, while the boys team finished further down the track in their races.
The girls’ team clocked 51.85 seconds to win ahead of the Birmingham B and A teams on Saturday, while the boys’ team finished fourth in their race in 46.11 seconds.
On Sunday the girls placed second in the 4x200m in 1 minute 51.76 seconds behind Birmingham A, while Birmingham B was third.
The boys were third in their race behind Birmingham B and A teams respectively.
The 10 athletes along with their coach Andrew Henry and chaperones — Nickisa Kennedy Maxwell, head of the Physical Education department at Spot Valley and school’s vice principal Angella Williams — were due back in the island yesterday.
The members of the contingent who left the island last week were also scheduled to participate in a number of cultural activities during their week-long stay.
