Olympic dream not yet over for Reid
THE 2012 Olympic dream of Jamaican-born Julian Reid might not yet be over, despite his disappointing seventh-place finish at last weekend’s Aviva United Kingdom Olympic Trials in Birmingham.
On Monday, Reid was named in the UK team that will take part in the European Championships which gets underway today in Helsinki, Finland.
Reid has been named along with JJ Jegede and Chris Tomlinson, who were second and third in the long jump final on Saturday.
The former Wolmer’s Boys’ athlete who switched allegiance to the UK last year and represented them at the World University Games in China had only managed 7.54m — well short of the Olympic Games B standard of 8.10.
Only one British long jumper — world leader Greg Rutherford — has achieved the minimum Olympic standards so far and so the door is still open for Reid.
