Richards nabs Olympic B shot put mark
WORLD University Games gold medallist O’Dayne Richards finally reached the Olympic Games B qualifying standard in the shot put after winning the event with a personal best 20.13m at the fourth in a series of JAAA All-Comers meet held at the Usain Bolt-UWI track last weekend.
After several closes misses when he threw well over 19 metres, Richards finally surpassed 20m mark for the B standard and will now set his sights of the 20.5m A standard.
Richards and 2008 Olympian Dorian Scott, who opened his season with 20.11 at a meet in California, also on Saturday, are both seeking to represent Jamaica t the Olympic Games that will get underway on July 27 in London.
Meanwhile, World Youth Championships gold medallist Fedrick Dacres won the junior discus throw event with a personal best 60.69m, while reigning senior and junior national champion, Traves Smikle, won the senior event in 62.05.
