A high-end JW Marriott hotel is slated to open in 2014 in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.

The 131-room hotel is located in the city’s Paintini district, according to Marriott.

It will feature a three-meal-a-day restaurant, a lobby bar, a lounge, a pool snack bar, a ballroom and a fitness centre.

For Marriott, the hotel represents the first JW Marriott location in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean.

“We currently have two other hotels in Santo Domingo and believe that the JW Marriott luxury brand will be very well received in the city,” Laurent de Kousemaeker, chief development officer for Marriott International in the Caribbean & Latin America, says.

The hotel will occupy the first seven stories of a 15-floor tower currently under construction above the upscale Blue Mall Santo Domingo, which opened in 2010.

The mall features luxury retailers such as Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Salvatore Ferragamo and Carolina Herrera.
