PEPPER POT: Tourism hate-mailer unmasked
O what a tangled web we weave when we do set out to deceive. The tourism official who should be promoting the industry is busy teaming up with the hate-mail people who would rather destroy the industry and brand Jamaica, just to squeeze out some measure of vengeance. Word is that he has been unmasked and the axe is poised to fall.
Curious and ‘curiouser’…
The curious letter of the day berating the successful businessmen is said to have the unmistakeable imprimatur of the one who fell out of grace and got the boot.
Losing friends and creating enemies
The US is slowly reverting to its old self that used to disregard the importance of its friends, with the proposed Fatca under which it is going after tax-dodgers but will hurt many innocent people in the rush. Just to have an account in a financial institution will bring consequences because those institutions will pass on to their customers the cost of conforming to US demands. Word is that the resentment is already building up. Thanks to Earl Jarrett and Courtney Campbell for alerting us.
A ‘Canon’ of journalism
CVM-TV’s Andrew Canon did a refreshingly balanced biographical piece on Wilmot ‘Motty’ Perkins that was aired Wednesday night. It was sad to see Ken Jones and Elaine Perkins deifying Motty, but then D K Duncan was equally demonising him. Good job though, Mr Canon.
Finger-raping Shanique Myrie
It’s good to see Barbados being made to answer for the finger-raping of Shanique Myrie. It felt like every Jamaican woman like me was finger-raped when it happened. We hope justice will prevail in the Caribbean Court of Justice.
