JAMAICA College (JC), the defending champions for the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships now on at the National Stadium, received a major boost on Monday when Diedre Ewart, the widow of one of the school’s former athletic greats, Barclay Ewart, handed over a cheque (representing proceeds from his funeral) to the school’s athletic coach Orville Brown to offset expenses for this year’s track and field competition.

Mrs Ewart said the family was pleased to have made the donation as her late husband was a very proud JC old boy who loved sports and would have been happy to contribute to the continued development of the school.

The coach and his team are upbeat and have expressed gratitude for the Ewart’s involvement. Brown said that his team was embracing the championship with ‘preparation, organisation, inspiration and execution’. The school is determined to retain the title.

Barclay Ewart was an avid athlete who championed the 100, 200 and 400 metres events in his time. The former businessman maintained his link with the school through the Old Boys’ Association. He was the chairman for Reggae Marathon up to the time of his passing. He was 76 years old.
