St Jago’s Waquar Larrington leads Decathlon after seven events
ST Jago’s Waquar Larrington assumed the lead in the Boys Decathlon Open after seven of the 10 events with 4,704 points ahead of Kingston College’s (KC) Darron Hunter on 4,607 and Jamaica College (JC) with 4,585 points.
With 12 points for the winner, the decathlon, in its second year at the GraceKennedy ISSA Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, will be crucial to the top schools’ thrust for honours.
Calabar’s hopes lie with Adrian Riley who was projected to finish in the top two, but with three events left, is languishing in sixth spot on 4,337 with some work to do.
Alton Palmer of Buff Bay High with 4,482 is fourth, ahead of Rosean Maxwell of Munro College on 4,354. Excelsior’s Maurice Harrison is seventh with 4,307; Oshane Shaw of Wolmers is next on 4,193 and a further 788 points back is Jamie Edwards of Bog Walk High on 3,405 points. Jamar McNaughton of St Elizabeth High completes the top 10 with 3,310.
After two finals, KC leads the boys section with 27 points, 15 ahead of second-place JC on 15 points, St Jago Boys third on 11 and Calabar High fourth on seven points.
