Devene Brown leads for shot put finals
ST Hugh’s High School’s Devene Brown leads the 12 qualifiers for this afternoon’s final of the girls’ shot put open on the third day of the 102nd ISSA/Grace Kennedy Girls Champs after an impressive 12.33m in this morning’s preliminaries.
Brown, who was sixth last year and led the event at the recent CARIFTA Games Trials until the final throw, could be asked to throw farther if she is to medal as the field includes defending champion and record holder Kellion Knibb who beat her at the CARIFTA Trials with 13,78m which is longer than the Champs record 13.64m.
Title favorites Edwin Allen are also expecting to score heavily with Danniel Thomas and Sasha-Gay Marston who were third and fourth respectively last year.
Defending champions Holmwood Technical also has two athletes in the final with the impressive Gleneve Grange and Alsian Robinson.
Weather permitting the final is set to start at 4:10 pm.
