Boys triple jump to be split next year
COME next year’s staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys championships, the triple jump could be contested in two classes instead of an Open event says ISSA’s Competitions Officer George Forbes.Jamaica Observer on Wednesday’s second session of the 102 year-old championships, Forbes said a second consideration was for the younger jumpers who had to go up against older competitors and the need to level the playing field.
In an effort to help the development of the field events, Forbes said discussions are well underway to make the changes.
The process he said would be to send out advance notices to all the teams then make the adjustments to the schedule of events.

Presently he said there were 16-year-olds who were going up against more experienced athletes and if they were to be encouraged, they should compete against their own age groups, he said.
Forbes pointed out that the younger boys competed against each other at the CARIFTA Trials.
Meanwhile he said there were no plans to separate the girls’ event.
This is the third year in a row that ISSA was adding at least one event to the schedule, adding the boys Class 3 1500m to years ago and the 2000m steeplechase for boys and girls last year while expanding the boys’ heptathlon into the 10 event decathlon.
Meanwhile Forbes said the response to the steeplechase events were “good” pointing out that they had to run three heats in the boys event on Tuesday.
