How safe is the air you breathe, the surface you touch and the food you eat?
IF you and I go to a restaurant, we each order whatever we want to put into our body… However at that same restaurant, you and I have no choice but to breathe the same air.
Recent outbreaks of Legionaries disease has occurred in major hotels around the world and most recently on the Las Vegas strip (Luxor Hotel and Casino), making many people sick and actually killing 3 people vacationing at Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, southern Spain. Both outbreaks occurred in February 2012.
Legionellosis is a potentially fatal infectious disease caused by gram negative, aerobic bacteria belonging to the genus Legionella. Over 90% of legionellosis cases are caused by Legionella pneumophila, a ubiquitous aquatic organism that thrives in temperatures between 25 and 45°C (77 and 113°F), with an optimum temperature of 35°C (95°F).
The cruise line industry is said to be losing millions of dollars per year, in part because travellers have been cruising less because of the scare of airborne and surface diseases caused by pathogens such as molds, bacteria and fungi that builds up in the airflow system and can then travel through the duct system directly into cabins and basically throughout the entire ship. They are on surfaces in kitchens and food preparation areas and cause serious gastrointestinal sickness. Recent outbreaks of mass illness on ships have put a dent in the cruise line pocketbooks because the ship has to be disinfected and cleared by health departments before the ship can set sail again. Most recently, 200 people developed the same stomach illness on Princess Cruise lines, which also occurred in February 2012. The more serious issue is that people are actually dying from contracting these different diseases from the air they breathe and food from contaminated preparation areas.
These airborne and surface diseases and infections caused by bacteria and fungi and viruses are major problems for the travel and tourism industry, but it doesn’t stop there. Have you ever thought about how clean a chicken farm is? Chickens eat and defecate in the same place right on top of each other. Owners of the chicken farms do the best they know how using disinfectants, but usually the disinfectants can create an even worse effect because of their toxicity levels, not only to the chickens but to the people who eat that bird.
The problem with fighting airborne and surface diseases like legionnaires, black mold, Salmonella, Norovirus or even E coli, is that the chemicals that are known to kill these types of pathogens can also be injurious to people.

I also believe the unit for the duct system that my partner Ron Webb and I have designed will be beneficial to many businesses in the Caribbean,” said Joe Risk.
Path-Away and GEGSI currently make its products available commercially through the use of a fogging type gun that actually sprays the Path-Away solution throughout buildings manually. Path-Away is also available for consumer use as an all natural sanitiser in a small 2 oz, 60 ml plastic spray bottle.
