Let’s have no conflicts in the London Olympics
Dear Editor,
As we look forward to the Olympic Games in London this summer, I have a concern. I recall some amount of disquiet in the Jamaican camp in the last two major international meets (Beijing and Daegu). There were reports of conflicts between the athletic clubs and our Olympic Association, and even animosity between some athletes.
I am calling on all the parties involved to be proactive in ironing out any potential problems from now so as not to derail our London “juggernaut”.
Meetings should be convened with all the stakeholders whereby the Olympic Association can apprise the clubs of any change in requirement relative to the athletes, likewise the clubs can air any concerns they have.
All of this should be done so that come this summer, the only spectacle we are treated to in London are the exploits of our sportsmen and sportswomen on the field. Please, gentlemen, we can do without the side-shows, personality conflicts and ego-jousting, in this our Jubilee Independence Year Olympics.
